In a recent announcement from the Collegiate Water Polo Association, five members of the UCSD women's water polo team were named as Division II All-Americans, including senior goalkeeper Kim Hockett being selected as Player of the Year. UCSD's Larry Sanders earned Coach of the Year honors, marking the fourth straight season he has received the award.
Sydney Gstettenbauer, Judy Emaus, Nicole Hermann and Stephanie Bocian filled out the Tritons' contingent on the All-American First Team. Hockett, Gstettenbauer and Emaus earned All-American honors in 2007 while Hermann and Bocian are making their first appearance on the First Team.
Hockett, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., set a new program single-season save record with 305 stops this year as co-captain. In April, she was named to the All-Western Water Polo Association Second Team.
Gstettenbauer, a junior from Ventura, Calif., tallied 82 goals, 47 assists and 46 steals in 2008. Her scoring total ranks second all-time among UCSD's single-season leaders. Earlier in the year, Gstettenbauer took First Team All-WWPA honors.
A senior out of East Lansing, Mich., Emaus finished a well-rounded campaign at the two-meter position with 38 goals, 16 assists and 22 steals.
Hermann, a senior and co-captain from Beaverton, Ore., ranked second on UCSD's squad in goals (40) and steals (41) while earning a spot on the All-WWPA Second Team.
