The City Council voted unanimously July 26 to put the question of whether to extend a year-long trial ban on alcohol consumption at city beaches on the Nov. 4, 2008, ballot.
Council President Scott Peters and Councilman Kevin Faulconer had held a press conference several days before the council vote advocating letting voters decide the issue.
Two lobbying organizations for and against the beach alcohol ban have begun campaigning on the issue. An organization supporting the beach booze ban has a Web site, www.safebeaches.org. That group is being spearheaded by Pacific Beach resident Scott Chipman.
Another group opposing the beach ban on alcohol is being led by Jacob Pyle. More information can be found at the group's Web site, www.freepb.org.
