The Board of Trustees at The Bishop's School unanimously selected on Oct. 6 Aimeclaire Lambert Roche as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2009.
Michael Teitelman, who has served as headmaster since 1983, will continue to lead the School until June 30, 2009.
Roche is currently assistant head of school and instructor of Latin at Groton School, in Groton, Mass. Prior to her arrival at Groton, Roche spent 10 years at St. Andrew's School, in Middletown, Delaware, as department head of classical languages, and instructor of Latin and Ancient Greek. At St. Andrews, she also served for five years as director of college counseling.
A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Roche earned an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a master's from Columbia University.
The appointment of Roche as Head of School at Bishop's concludes a national search begun by the search committee in May, 2007, with the assistance of a consultant, Educational Directions Incorporated.
Roche will be the 11th Head of School in Bishop's 100-year history. The Bishop's School is a coeducational college preparatory independent day school consisting of grades seven through twelve.
Founded in 1909, the school is located in the center of La Jolla and affiliated with the Episcopal Church. The 2008 - 2009 enrollment is 745 students who live throughout San Diego County. During the 2008-2009 school year Bishop's is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1909.
