I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to introduce myself.
I'm the new editor of the Light. My goal is to make the Light's print and online editions your top sources for news about your community. We're a weekly newspaper, but as we know the future of industry is in the midst of changes that mean that we need to be more.
Our Web site, www.lajollalight.com, already has a new look and continues to grow. We're posting news as it breaks and are looking for you to tip us off when you know something's happening. You can call us or use the e-mail link "Talk Back" (which you'll find in the pulldown menus) as soon as you know of a news event.
If you want to talk about a specific story, click the "Red Phone" on news stories or the "Green Phone" on sports stories.
For news releases, go to the section you want it listed in and "Submit a …(digest item, score, business profile, etc.) You also can use our online calendar to post your events where others can see them. Bookmark our site or, better yet, make it your homepage!
As I get settled, I'll be out and about, looking for people who want to share their ideas about what your newspaper means to you. I hope you'll be looking for me too and inviting me to speak to your organization about the paper and how to get your news in the Light.
What do you want to read about? What issues are important to La Jolla's future? Want more entertainment information? More school news? More business news?
Let me know. I can't promise the world, but I can listen to your ideas and implement the ones that work.
My e-mail address and phone number are listed below. I'll get back to you as soon as I can - and that's not blowing smoke. I value the opinions of our readers and want to know what you think.
That said, I invite you to send us your letters to the editor, too. Watch for what your friends and neighbors - and those on the other side - have to say. The Light is the voice of your community.
Give me a call at (858) 875-5950, or e-mail me at kday@lajollalight.com. - Kathy Day
