In Brief: La Jolla swimmers open strong

The La Jolla High School Swim Team, led by coach Tom Atwell, finished strong in its first three meets. Both the boys and girls opened the league with wins over University City High School.
The girls had great swims by Kelly Wahl, (senior) in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, and Kayla Horner (junior) in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and Grace Benefield (junior) in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
The boys also had a great showing with top performers Tyler Woods (junior) swimming in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Hunter Gettelfinger (junior) in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Connor Robbins (junior) in the 500 freestyle. Also swimming strong were Daniel Diercks (junior) in the 100 breast, and Hunter Brown (senior) in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.
LJHS also made a great showing at the Mt. Carmel Invitational with the boys finishing in fourth place. Gettelfinger, Woods, Miko Vesprimi and Alex Arcidiacono set a meet record in the 200 Free Relay and Woods won the 100 freestyle.
