The La Jolla High School boys volleyball team is Section Division III 2008 champions.
Boys volleyball
La Jolla High School earned a measure of redemption. After falling in the CIF San Diego Section Division III championship last season, the Vikings captured the crown in 2008.

La Jolla, the top-seeded team in Division III, beat third-seeded Ramona, 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, in the May 21 title game. It was the Vikings' first section championship in boys' volleyball since 1989.

Senior Matt Jones led La Jolla with 22 kills.

Track
La Jolla High School's girls team fared well at the CIF San Diego Section finals on May 24. Two runners qualified to continue competing at the state meet, and a handful of others posted solid marks that helped the Vikings place second in Division II. La Jolla scored 47 points, second to Cathedral Catholic's 73 1/3.

Nihal Kayali and Tess Plant-Thomas qualified for the state meet in the 1,600 meters and the 800, respectively (see related story), and La Jolla had eight other placing marks that contributed to its second-place finish.

The 1,600 meter relay team of Kayali, Nicole Bakke, Christie Richmond and Plant-Thomas placed first in Division II and set a school record with a time of 4 minutes, 2.37 seconds.

Melia Plotkin placed first in the Division II pole vault with a mark of 9 feet, 9 inches. Rosie Jay placed fifth at 8-3, and Lauren Swishberg was eighth at 7-9.

Kylie Henry placed fifth in the Division II 100 meters in 12.69 seconds. Gina Scumacher was fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.60, a personal record. Heather Martin placed fourth with a mark of 33-7.5 in the triple jump, also setting a personal record. Jessica Armstrong placed eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:28.98.

Baseball
La Jolla High School dropped its first-round game in the double-elimination CIF SDS Division III playoffs, falling to Cathedral Catholic on May 21. Peter Sefton drove in two runs.

After twice being rained out, the Vikings returned to action on May 26 and beat Brawley, 4-0, to stay alive in the postseason.

Softball
The Bishop's School secured an 8-2 win over Imperial in the quarterfinals of the Division IV playoffs on May 20.

On May 22, the Knights fell to Francis Parker, 14-3, in the semifinals.

Bishop's finished its season with a 17-6 overall record.

Girls lacrosse
La Jolla High School secured an 11-10 win over third-seeded Westview on May 20 in the section tournament quarterfinals.
