UCSD teams honored The UC San Diego men's and women's soccer teams recently had players named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association all-conference squads.
Men's players honored were Forward Tony Fernandez, goalkeeper Peter Akman, and defender Jared Kukura each earned a spot on the All-CCAA Second Team.
Leading the women's squad were Natasha Belak-Berger, Amanda Esquivel, Jessica McGovern, Lisa Bradley, Anne Wethe and Sara Bolton.
Wood top in age group Peter Wood, 65, finished first in the 65-69-year-old division of the XTERRA World championship.
He crossed the line more than 20 minutes ahead of his closest competitor.
The October event at Makena, Maui, included a 1-mile swim, a 20-mile bike ride that included a ride down the 5,000-foot- high slopes of the Haleakala volcano, and a 7-mile trail run with 1,600 feet of climbing on rocks, dirt, lava and sand.
Lacrosse club starts Dec. 7 Winter programs for the La Jolla Lacrosse Foundation, including the Triple X Training Program, start Dec. 7 at La Jolla High School.
The program, headed by Todd MacFarlane, offers elementary through high school boys a chance to learn game skills before the spring season of the San Diego County Lacrosse League starts. Spots are still open in the Grades 3-5 group from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Grades 6-8 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and High School from 12-1:30 p.m.
