Week in Sports: La Jolla High School fell to Point Loma High School

La Jolla High School fell to Point Loma High School on Friday, Nov. 14, 28-7.

LJCD football rolls into playoffs

Football
La Jolla Country Day rolled to a 56-35 victory over Tri-City Christian on Nov. 14.
Derek Hatfield completed 15 of his 17 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown while also running for two scores, and Montell Allen rushed for 187 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries.

Allen led the defense with 13 tackles, Ruben Pena made an interception, and Doug Rogers recovered a fumble. Zack Wolfenzon converted all of his point-after-touchdown attempts.

The Torreys are scheduled to host Mountain Empire in the first round of the CIF San Diego Section Division V playoffs on Friday.

La Jolla High School suffered a 28-7 defeat to Point Loma in its regular-season finale on Nov. 14.

Girls' volleyball
The Bishop's School secured a 25-5, 25-9, 25-18 victory over Mater Dei in the first round of the D-IVplayoffs on Nov. 14. Julie Gantz had seven aces, while Hannah Saber, Kendall Lord and Maddie Lord combined for 11.

The Knights were scheduled to play Francis Parker in a semifinal match on Nov. 18.

Boys' water polo
La Jolla High School swam to an 11-4 win over Valhalla in a D-II quarterfinal game on Nov. 15. Alex Arcidiacono scored six goals, and goalie Cameron Ravenbach made 11 saves.

The Vikings were scheduled to face Coronado on Nov. 18 in the semifinals.
The Bishop's School eased to a 21-3 victory over El Capitan in the first round of the D-II playoffs on Nov. 12. Scott Siegel scored four goals, and Demian Tschirn drew three ejections and had three assists.

On Nov. 15, the Knights topped University City in the quarterfinals. Siegel had four goals again, and Tschirn added two goals, two assists, two steals and two ejections drawn. Scott Michalko added three scores.

Bishop's was scheduled to face Cathedral Catholic in the semifinals on Nov. 22.

Cross country
La Jolla High School's girls' team placed third at the Western League finals, held Nov. 11 at Balboa Park's Morley Field. Nihal Kayali placed seventh with a time of 20 minutes, 13 seconds, and Tess Plant-Thomas was 12th in 20:44.

The Vikings' boys also placed third at the league finals. Michael Conroy finished fourth in 15:58, and Andre Farkas was eighth in 16:18.

La Jolla Country Day's boys' team won the Coastal Conference title with a strong showing in the conference meet at Kit Carson Park on Nov. 14. Alex Poyhonen was named Conference Runner of the Year after finishing first in 16:55 over a 3.1-mile course. Dennis Roth was third in 17:25, and Lee Klitzner was seventh in 17:37.

The top runner for The Bishop's School was Will Botta, who finished ninth in 17:45. The Knights placed fourth.

The girls' team from Bishop's won the conference championship on the same day. Elizabeth Schulze was the first-place individual in 20:56. Laura Wyatt was fractions of a second behind, also finishing in 20:56. Lauren Collins was fifth in 21:53, and Naomi Wagner was sixth in 22:00.

Country Day's girls' team got a 15th-place finish out of Sam Staszak (23:37), and Sasha Binderow was 22nd in 24:21.

Field hockey
La Jolla High School eased to a 9-0 win over Canyon Crest in the first round of the D-II playoffs on Nov. 15. Maddy Sharp scored four goals, and Claire Mittermiller scored a goal and added two assists. Sami McLaughlin, Anna Parma, Kaitlin Sharpe and Kristina Mendez also scored for the Vikings. Anjali Thota and Molly Rutgard split the shutout in goal.

La Jolla was scheduled to visit Valley Center for a second-round game on Nov. 18.

The Bishop's School finished the regular season with a 3-2 defeat to El Capitan on Nov. 15.
